EV Charger Installation in Northern NJ — Tesla, Level 2, Hardwired

You bought the EV. Now you need to charge it at home. A proper Level 2 install is faster, safer, and cheaper to operate than the trickle-charger that came in the trunk — and a licensed install is what your home insurance and the utility rebate program both require.

Gareffa Electric is a licensed NJ electrical contractor installing EV chargers across Bergen, Hudson, Essex, and Passaic counties. We do the load calc, the permit, the dedicated 240V circuit, the inspection, and the rebate paperwork — so you go from "I just took delivery" to "plugged in at home" without you chasing anything down.

EV chargers we install most often

  • Tesla Wall Connector — the cleanest install for any Tesla, with WiFi monitoring and over-the-air firmware updates
  • NEMA 14-50 outlet — works with Tesla Mobile Connector and most J1772 portable EVSEs, fastest path for renters or short-term solutions
  • ChargePoint Home Flex — best for homes with multiple EV brands or anyone who wants WiFi tracking
  • Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Grizzl-E, JuiceBox — all compatible, install is similar
  • Hardwired Level 2 chargers up to 80A — for high-draw EVs (Hummer EV, Rivian R1T) that benefit from faster charging

What a Gareffa EV charger install includes

  • On-site walk-through and load calculation — confirms your panel can support a 240V/40A or 240V/50A circuit
  • Permit pulled in our name with your NJ municipality
  • Dedicated 240V branch circuit, sized to the manufacturer's spec
  • Wire run from panel to garage / driveway / outdoor location — through walls, attics, basements as needed
  • Conduit and weatherproof installation if outdoor
  • GFCI protection where required by code
  • Hardwire or NEMA 14-50 plug, customer's choice
  • Charger mounting, commissioning, and a test charge before we leave
  • Final inspection coordinated and attended by us
  • JCP&L / PSE&G EV rebate paperwork filed for you (when applicable)

What an EV charger install costs in NJ

A typical Level 2 install — 200A panel with capacity, charger location within 25 feet of the panel, no mast or service work needed — runs $1,200–$2,200 all-in. Longer runs, exterior work, panel upgrades, or sub-panels push it higher. Garage finishes (drywall patches, paint matching) we coordinate with you separately.

If your panel doesn't have capacity, we'll tell you on the walk-through. Sometimes a load-management device (DCC-9, NeoCharge) avoids a full panel upgrade. Sometimes a panel upgrade is the right move.

Our $100 Estimate Visit covers the walk-through, load calc, and written quote. The $100 is credited back when you book the install.

Rebates and incentives we help with

  • JCP&L EV Driven Charging Rebate — up to $1,500 toward Level 2 charger + installation
  • PSE&G Residential Smart Charging — bill credits and equipment rebates depending on program year
  • NJ Charge Up Residential — state-funded incentive for residential Level 2
  • Federal tax credits — we provide the documentation, your accountant claims the credit

Programs change year to year. We track current incentives and tell you what you're eligible for during the estimate.

How an EV install goes with us

  1. Estimate visit. We walk the run from panel to charger location, do the load calc, take photos, confirm the charger model.
  2. Written quote. Within 2 business days. Line-item, permit included, schedule confirmed.
  3. Permit and schedule. Most installs schedule 1–2 weeks out. EV charger work doesn't usually require a utility shutoff.
  4. Install day. Half-day to full-day depending on run length. Power off only at the panel during the final tie-in.
  5. Inspection and close-out. We meet the inspector, deliver the close-out packet, file rebate paperwork.

05 / Q&A

Good questions,
straight answers.

What's the difference between Same-Day, Scheduled, and Estimate?

Same-Day Service ($350) is priority dispatch for problems you need fixed today — broken, dead, or tripping. We get there, diagnose, and repair on the spot, with the first hour included. Scheduled Service ($150) is the same hands-on diagnostic and repair work, but for non-urgent issues you can book a day or two out. Estimate ($100) is a written walk-through for planned upgrades — service panels, EV chargers, additions, remodels. The $100 is credited back if you hire us for the project.

What does the $350 same-day service actually include?

The trip out, the diagnostic, and a full hour of a licensed electrician's labor on-site. That's not a "show-up fee" — it's an hour of real work. Most common residential issues (dead outlets, tripping breakers, faulty switches, GFCI replacements, light fixture troubleshooting) get diagnosed and fixed within that hour. If the issue runs longer or needs parts, we give you a complete written price before we keep going.

What if the fix takes longer than an hour?

We diagnose first, then quote the full job before doing any extra work. You see the price and approve it before we proceed — never any "oh, that'll be another $400" at the end. If the project ends up over $1,500, your $350 same-day service fee is credited toward the total.

Why do you take a deposit when I book?

Honestly, because the moment you book, we're already on our way. Your deposit dispatches a licensed electrician toward your house, locks in your slot, and gives our techs a confirmed schedule, so we're not double-booking or showing up to empty driveways. If you cancel more than 2 hours before your window, we refund in full. Inside 2 hours we keep the deposit since we've already held the slot for you and the truck is rolling.

Are you really licensed and insured?

Yes — NJ Electrical Contractor License #18578, $2M general liability, fully insured for residential and commercial work. We're happy to send certificates of insurance to property managers, condo boards, or landlords on request.

Let's get it
fixed.

Book online in under a minute. A licensed electrician will be on the way today, and you'll know exactly what it costs before we even ring the doorbell.
