If it needs more than an hour, you get the price before we keep going. Planned work (a panel upgrade, a new circuit, a lighting job) is a $100 estimate visit instead: an on-site walk-through and a written estimate, credited to the job if you book it.
Not on the list? Call anyway and describe it. You get a straight answer on whether it is a service call or a bigger job. Smoke, or something actively burning? Get out and call 911 first.
